About Me
I'm Jian Wei Gan, you can call me Wei (like "way").
I'm from Singapore, which is a 20 hour flight from New York City and 12 hours ahead of Eastern Time in the USA. (It's also in South East Asia if you were wondering)
I'm a sophomore and I am currently taking this course along with CompSci 104: Computer Organization , Design and Programming, CompSci 102: Discrete Math for CompSci and Econ 105: Microeconomics
My CompSci Autobiography
I first started using a computer when I was 10 years old, I can't even remember what was its make/model, or what kind of processor it had.
I grew up using Windows 95 and subsequently Windows XP, I learned more about Mac OS X and figured I'd prefer it to windows, so I got a MacBook when I came to college and have been enjoying OS X ever since. I would like to dabble in Linux someday and I'm sure I will soon.
I use my computer on a daily basis to surf the internet, do homework, learn things online, program for fun, make websites, design stuff etc.
I took the Java games CompSci 4, looking to get some exposure to programming and CompSci, but before I knew it I was hooked and I went on to take CompSci 100 and declare CompSci as my first major.
Best programming experience was probably managing to solve CompSci 100 APTs myself at the beginning of the course. I was always worried that my lack of CompSci 6 would disadvantage me, but that moment showed that I had caught up with my peers.
Best Project was probably my CompSci 4 game. It was a top scrolling shooter with a Duke Basketballer throwing basketballs at fans from our rival teams. Although the code probably stinks (see Code Smells), I still thought it was a kickass game, just don't ask me to add features to it.
I want to develop rich web applications, hopefully land a job that lets me do that, or eventually start my own company and my own webapp.
Hobbies
Programming/CompSci aside, I love: contemporary art, soccer, the internet, Haruki Murakami books, indie rock.
