are ideal ($5 Wal-mart canvas shoes work great), but any comfortable

These low resolution b&w videos are
provided free of charge to help students remember
the Taijiquan routines. You may need to download
the DivX decoder

able to play the video).

Southgate Gym & West Duke Lawn
Or click here for an alternate map
Southgate gym is the building on the Duke East campus that
is closest to the corner of Main and Broad St. It is across
the street from Wellspring. Note that Southgate gym is attached to
the Southgate dormitory. It is not the main East campus gym (i.e.
Southgate Gym is different than Brodie Gym).
- Getting to Main St.
- From 147/Durham Freeway, take the Swift Ave
exit. If you are southbound, turn left
after the exit ramp. If you are northbound,
turn right. You will be on Swift Ave
heading towards Broad St.
- When you reach the intersection of Swift
Ave and Main St, turn right onto Main St.
- You are travelling on Main St. heading towards
downtown, Southgate Hall (where Southgate Gym is)
is the first building on the left after the Main
Street/Broad Street intersection.
- For Southgate:
- Turn left onto the second side street (the
first side street is an exit) after the Main
Street/Broad Street intersection and you will see
a parking lot to your right after about 100 ft.
The parking lot is on the left side of the building.
- From the parking lot, go to the back of the
building, up a half flight of stairs (on the fire escape)
and through the door into the gym.
- Right now only Johnny has
card access to the gym, so you have to wait for someone
to open the door for you (knock loudly on the door).
- For the West Duke lawn :
- Instead of turning left at the Southgate entrance, continue down Main St. for roughly another half block and take the next left into East campus. This is the main entrance to East campus.
- The gazebo lawn should be on the right, and the West Duke lawn should be on the left. The should be marked parking spaces along the street.
Bivins
Click here for a bigger map image.
- Getting to Markham Ave. - follow the Southgate Gym directions for
getting to Main St., but proceed 1 block further to the intersection of
Broad St. and Markham Ave.
- Turn right onto Markham Ave.
- Near Sedgefield is the Markham Ave. entrance to Duke's East campus.
Take a right into this entrance.
- The first building on the right is Bivins. Classes meet in Bivins rm.
210.
