Hello and thank you for visiting my website! I am currently a PhD candidate in the Sociology Department of Duke University. My research and teaching interests include:
The majority of my research examines how social factors affect individual health, drawing from life course, stress process, and stratification perspectives. In addition to my dissertation on trajectories of social role occupancy and health, I engage in collaborative research on the health of Chinese elders and racial and socioeconomic health disparities among US elders. I also enjoy researching topics outside of medical sociology and demography, including internet dating and college student achievement. In the future, I hope to further incorporate health policy and evaluation into my research agenda. Although most of my work utilizes quantitative research methods, I have engaged in qualitative interview research as well. I enjoy teaching statistics and research methods, and have experience tutoring groups of student athletes. I also engage in a number of other professional activities, including coordinating service learning courses and the Leadership in an Aging Society Program and managing the journal Demography. I am also a board member and volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Durham, a non-profit organization that provides hot, nutritious meals to homebound adults. |
