Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga)

Breeding range extends from the tropics north along the eastern US coast to North Carolina. Anhingas are very common in Florida and uncommon in coastal NC.

Anhingas often stand with spread wings to facilitate feather drying and thermoregulation.

Related to pelicans and cormorants, Anhingas feed on fish and have small throat pouches.
