Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator)

A large, native swan that breeds from Alaska to scattered locations in the Rocky Mountains and Great Lakes (re-introduced there). As populations rebound and reintroduction programs thrive, expect more records of this species in North Carolina in the winter in places like Lake Mattamuskeet.
