Uncommon in the sandhills of NC, Dotted Skippers have two broods resulting in adults flying in May/June and Aug/Sep.
As LeGrand & Howard point out in their "Notes of the Butterflies of NC", females are browner below with more contrasting white spots, while males are more ochre with less contrasting spots.
