Juniper Hairstreak (Callophrys gryneus)

In NC, Juniper Hairstreaks mostly occur in the piedmont in association with their host plant, Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana). Another population occurs along the immediate coast associated with J. salicicola. They are generally uncommon and have two broods, flying from March into early September.

Juniper Hairstreaks are quite variable in the amount of green and brown they exhibit.

		Note the varying amount of green vs. rust in different individuals of the same population.
