Silver-spotted Skipper (Epargyreus clarus)

Common statewide in NC, this large skipper flies from spring into fall. When seen from above, it can be confused with Hoary Edge or Golden Banded-Skipper. Note the gold spots above on Silver-spotted Skippers do not enclose a small brown spot as they do on Hoary Edge. Also note the crooked shape of the gold spot line on Silver-spotted Skippers as opposed to the straighter, longer spot line on Golden Banded-Skipper.
