Sleepy Duskywing (Erynnis brizo)

Widespread but uncommon in NC, this species has only one brood and is only on the wing in the springtime. Note the lack of white spots in the forewing that many other duskywing species show.

Ever wonder what some butterflies do when it gets cloudy and they "disappear"? Well Derb Carter and I watched this one land on a twig and fold its wings back and almost wrap around the twig!
