Two-spotted Skipper (Euphyes bimacula)

This is one of the rarest widespread butterflies in the Eastern U.S. In NC, it's both local and rare in scattered localities in the coastal plain where native sedges abound. There's one NC lower piedmont record as well, and in 2006 a healthy population (20+ individuals) was discovered in the NC mountains on property that is not open to the public. Two-brooded, NC adults are on the wing in May/June and in July/August.
