Found statewide in NC, Zebra Swallowtails are usually uncommon and fairly local. They are even less common in the western portion of the state, but they can be abundant in some areas of the coastal plain, e.g. around Pettigrew State Park where many of these photos were taken.
I've helped out with the NABA "Fourth of July" Butterfly Count for several years, and each year we see literally hundreds of them on count day!
