Lancet Clubtail (Gomphus exilis)

In NC, this species can be very difficult to distinguish from Ashy Clubtail (Gomphus lividus). Lancets tend to be smaller and darker, and they usually show lots of yellow on abdomenal segment S9 (the last long segment). In NC, Lancet Clubtails appear in the spring and fly into early summer.
