White-faced Meadowhawk (Sympetrum obtrusum)

North Carolina is the southern edge of this species where it is considered very rare and known only from one mountain county. It is common in much of its range which goes coast to coast in Canada and the northern half of the US.

Adult male shows diagnostic white face. All others are reportedly inseparable in the field from Ruby Meadowhawk.
