Cattail Toothpick Grasshopper (Leptysma marginicollis) Cattail Toothpick Grasshopper (Leptysma marginicollis)
Moore Co., NC

Statewide in North Carolina in wet habitats with emergent vegetation. When disturbed, this grasshopper flies a relative short distance, alights on another stem, and quickly slides around to the opposite side of the stem. This makes photography a bit of a challenge!

Unidentifed Grasshoppers...

spur-throated grasshopper (Melanoplus sp.) One of the spurthroated grasshoppers (Melanoplus sp.)
Moore Co., NC
7 Oct 2007

Very difficult to identify to species without in-hand genitalia examination, but Dave Ferguson suggests this might be Walsh's Grasshopper (Melanoplus walshii).

spur-throated grasshopper (Melanoplus sp.) Another spur-throated grasshopper (Melanoplus sp.)
Weedy powerline field in Jones Co., NC
21 Oct 2007

Dave Ferguson suggests this is most likely a female Keeler's Spurthroat Grasshopper (Melanoplus keeleri) based on its pattern.

spur-throated grasshopper (Melanoplus sp.) Same spur-throated grasshopper (Melanoplus sp.) as above, probably Keeler's Spurthroat.
Weedy powerline field in Jones Co., NC
