Thayer's Gull (Larus thayeri)

Rare but regular winter visitor in NC.
Possible 2nd winter Thayer's Gull

We noted that the folded primaries were light brown, much lighter than all similarly plumaged Herring Gulls around. The eye is dark, and the head & bill seem rounded & slender enough. Comments welcome!

This adult was found in the chum line following the Miss Hatteras on a Brian Patteson Seabirds Pelagic Trip.

Note the reduced amount of black in the wingtips and the bright pink legs (brighter than Herring Gulls).
