NYC

Shortly after September 11th, Jen & I decided to spend a little time and money on a city that deserved both. Here are a few of the pictures we took while there (October 27th-29th), with more to come...

Jen's B&Ws are now up - click here to view.

I remember you well at the Chelsea Star Hotel... What cool digs, huh? Here's Nora, in the room she stayed in with her brother, Marty. The next night she joined Jen & me in our free-upgrade apartment.

Jen & Nora are suffering from a bit of over exposure, I'm afraid. Well, the lights were bright on Broadway. After dinner at an Indian place on 2nd Avenue (Pongal), we wandered around Midtown, eventually winding up atop the Empire State Building. We never got to "The Producers," alas, but Sunday found us at "Rent," a fine show in its own right.

The subways of New York are clean and fun to ride.

Street musicians know their acoustics, like this sax man in a Central Park underpass.

Another cool thing in Central Park is Belvedere Castle. Here I am atop the castle, with the Upper West Side providing a backdrop to the expanse of autumn leaves.

After "Rent," we got a late-night taste of the East Village at Yaffa Cafe.

Ultimately, we did make it down to Ground Zero. You'll find shrines like this all over the city, but especially here. The tombstone visible through the fence belongs to an old cemetery on Lower Broadway. The WTC site is a block way, in the darkness. Jen's black-and-whites (to be printed soon) should provide a view beyond the veil of my color film.
