Personal Profile

About me...

I am a nurse practitioner who has been working at the University of Washington Medical Center for more years than I care to remember. After stitching up countless lacerations, staring down thousands of sore throats, draining endless abscesses (plus pulling out the occasional cockroach from ear canals), I have decided it is time to move on. My interest in computers and all things geeky has lead me to pursue a career in nursing informatics. My goal is to survive what is quite a rigorous program at Duke University Nursing School in Nursing Informatics and then pursue a career in the health informatics field at the University of Washington Medical Center.

On the home front, I have a wonderful husband to whom I have been married for 20 years and two just as wonderful children, ages 13 and 15. One loves to play the oboe and one is on the computer even more than I am. I am also the director of a small choir at my church and have a fondness for roses, cooking, and palm pilots.

I was born in Walnut Creek, California and fulfilled a childhood dream of going to nursing school at UCLA. I worked there for seven years in the Cardiac Surgery ICU. In 1983 I entered the University of Washington's Family Nurse Practitioner Program. After graduation, I did a stint as a Cardiac Surgery NP but did not like working in such a specialized field. It also ate up way too much of my time. This brought me to a part-time position in the UW Emergency Room for quiet a few years unitl my current position.
