I am from Shanghai, China. Now I am in my second year of Masters’ Program in Biomedical Engineering, Duke University.
I started using computer when I was in my high school. That was a desktop computer and I knew nothing expect emails and MSN.
After I went to college, I owned my first laptop. It was an IBM laptop, and I gave it a nickname as “Blacky”. Since then on, I spent more than 6 hours in computer and internet to study as well as to entertain. I check the latest new, compiled programs, wrote finals and midterms and submitted homework. I also downloaded movies and music, chatted with friends and families, and purchased online.
As an engineering student, I always face academic situations that need programming. I learned something about programming, and am confident that I am good at simple programs within a hundred lines. But I always feel unconfident to use it to solve real problems because I would be confused at some key points, and stuck myself there. Furthermore, when my program fails, I usually cannot figure out what was wrong with it. I have a feeling that I missed kind a systematic training of transform the complicated real-world academic problems into pieces of modules. The logic line is not that clear for me. That is the reason I choose this course. I wish it can benefit me in academic to some extent.
The worst project I have done is in my third year of college. A project was assigned at the beginning of the semester, and should be turned in at the semester end. I only started work on that several weeks before the final, and did a really bad job.
I am not a scientific fiction writer, but I would expect an easier and more convenient life with computer. Heat gave out by the hard disk can be gathered and stored in “ computerstrove”, which will provide us with hot coffee and hot sandwich.
I like the atmosphere the first day I entered the classroom in social science. Click Here, the link for the course.
There is too much hobbies in me I can think of. Musicals, Dances, Movies, Calligraphy, Lute. Etc.
Sometimes my name is found to be hard to pronounce. It is ok for me if you would like to call me Helen in short. J
