I started using a computer when I was about six. I would try to play some of my dad's games on the computer, most of
which were board games turned into computer games. I remember Risk, Axis and Allies, and Magic in particular. I pretty
much only use my Dell Inspiron 6000...although I'm not sure how much longer it's going to last.
I use my computer very often. Most of the time, it's for homework, messing around on the internet, or playing games. In
high school I had an older friend who was taking AP Compsci online. He sometimes acted as my mentor, giving me advice and
teaching me some math. He really liked programming, so I was curious to find out what it was all about. I signed up to take
the class online the next school year, and really enjoyed the little bit of C++ I learned at a nerd camp that summer. I loved
the class and so decided to keep studying computer science.
A computer scientist could do any range of things on a daily basis. Teaching, researching, developing...anything that has to
do with computers is within the realm of possibilities.
My best programming experience was actually on the AP Computer Science exam. It had something to do with an opposum. What I
really remember about it is that I managed to program, fairly successfully I think, without even needing a computer to yell at me when
I did something wrong! Plus this made programming with an actual IDE in front of you a LOT easier. My favorite programming
project was probably Boggle, from Compsci100. It was a fair bit of work, but it was actually playable in the end! I really enjoy
projects that I can actually interact with when I'm done with them.
In the future, I would love to be programming. Even though it can be really frustrating, it all pays off once you finally get
rid of that last bug. I'd also like to be able to really understand a computer...that way I can answer all my mom's
questions about her own computer. There are a lot of them.
