Bush Grabs Democratic Votes
President George W. Bush was reelected Wednesday in a race not quite as close as was predicted. Bush won by over three and a half million votes in the popular vote and was the first candidate since his father in 1988 to win a majority of the popular vote. Bush won Ohio and Florida, thus taking two of the pivotal three swing states with Kerry winning Pennsylvania. One of the most surprising numbers for me was that Bush carried a greater percentage of Democrats than Kerry carried Republicans. I expected the opposite and for Bush to win the independent vote, but in fact Kerry won the independent vote 49% to 48%. Bush took 11% of Democrats, while Kerry only took 6% of Republicans.
