Kerry Conceding Good for Democratic Process
John Kerry did an honorable thing by conceding the election this morning. He could easily have justified beginning a legal battle in Ohio that would last weeks. Kerry, however, took the high road and admitted defeat when it was apparent that he would have to win an extremely high percentage of the provisional votes in Ohio to pull out a victory there. I believe Kerry realized that another legal battle would cause distrust in the system after an election with exceptionally high voter turnout. An election that was decided in the courts weeks after Election Day would discourage voters who want their vote to decide the election on Election Day.
