The following is a brief title list of all the original works of hypertext fiction currently listed at Hyperizons. It should be the quickest way to find an individual work either by searching or browsing, and also provides a detour around both my commentary or links to others' commentary on certain works. The longer citations, of course, are still available from this list. The [More] symbol beside a name or title indicates a link to a close-up--i.e., an expanded citation. That citation may be anything from a few lines of comment by me to a list of articles, interviews with the author, etc. Works with these longer citations may also be browsed separately in the list for Original Hypertext Fiction. The other place to look for new fiction is the Bookmarks file. I hope that will go away soon, to be absorbed into this list as I have time.

The numbering for the citations in each section is provided not, god forbid, to "rank" the works but only to give users (myself included) a sense of the current scope of each list. All works are HTML/Web documents in English unless indicated otherwise .

Fiction by Multiple Authors

Arranged alphabetically by title. The name(s) listed underneath are variously the editor, main author, webmaster, or some combination thereof. Perhaps since this genre is so new they should take the title often used in large grants: principal investig ator (or instigator). Also see "Hyperizons Bookmarks" for potential new, unsorted links to collaborative fiction.

Miscellany

This is a list of various citations that people have sent me or that I inherited from Prentiss Riddle (usually from his "Close But No Cigar" category). Being in the "Miscellany" category doesn't mean a work is second class, it just means it's not quite what I'm looking for--hypertext fiction. Included here are hyper poetry, role-playing games, and fiction that is in some way untraditional without quite being hypertextual. I seldom offer extended comments on these works, but at least try to indicate what sort of thing it is. Arranged alphabetically by author for individual works and by title for group works and anthologies.

This section last updated 3/17/97.

Fiction--but is it hyperfiction?

  1. Adventures In The Great OutThere(TM).
    • Hmm. My patience, which I like to think is considerable, has not lasted long enough for me to make a more extensive comment.
  2. Asher, Levi
    • Queensboro Ballads. A collection of (linear) fiction arranged on the paradigm of a concept rock album.
  3. Barbry, Redmon
  4. Bertrand, Dale.
    • Conducted by his Violent Gestures. Not sure whether I think this is hypertextual--in a sense, the front page is just a glorified table of contents. Great title. (4/22/96)
  5. Bochman, Alon
  6. McLaughlin, Tim
  7. Seeraen Light Universal Abiqua Dragon Cult.
  8. Travis, Christopher K.
  9. Valimaa, H.R.

Hypertext Poetry

  1. Cayley, John.
  2. Clark, Lawrence J.
  3. Kendall, Robert.
    • Various works. Kendall has published with Eastgate, among others. (2/10/97)
  4. "Myriat"
    • Calls itself a poem, but seems to contain much prose narrative, too. A project of John Unsworth's ENSP 482 seminar at the University of Virginia. (4/22/96)
  5. Rosenberg, Jim.
    • Various works. I don't pretend to be well-read in hypertext poetry (or any poetry for that matter, with the possible exception of Wallace Stevens), but I think it's safe to say that in hypertext, Rosenberg is to poetry what Michael Joyce is to fiction. Begin here. (4/22/96)

Other hypermedia narratives

  1. Bloomfield, Lisa.
    • "Untitled." A photographic exhibition interlaced with narrative that is definitely worth a look. (Note: requires Netscape 2.0 or above; server slow; 5/3/96)
  2. Brooks, Jeff.
  3. The Spot.
    • Sort of like MTV's Real Life, but on the web. Lots of slow-to-load graphics.
  4. "tourist strip." By the "spirit trouts collective" according to Matt Kirschenbaum.
    • Somewhat like Lisa Bloomfield's work in that it's a mixture of text and image that is hard to categorize and interesting to explore (9/29/96)
  5. WebLibs Prototype!
    • An experiment in collaborative prose.

Interactive Games and so forth

  1. Addventure! (4/22/96)
