Abortions can be executed at any giventime during the pregnancy. There are different methods of aborting depending on how long the mother has been pregnant; these are measured in trimesters. In the first week after conception, however, micro-abortions are done by the use of certain drugs and/or devices. Such drugs might be RU 486, Methotrexate and prostaglandins. During the first trimester, abortions are done surgically by way of suction and D&C. Second and third trimester abortions are carried out by intracardiac injections, partial birth abortions and D&E.
