The Future of Molding and Casting
"Cybercasting"
As analog vinyl record albums gave way to digital
CDs, so too will physical molds give way to digital molds. This
process has already happened in making prototypes of aircraft,
automobile, and surgical parts. The name that has been coined
for this new craft is "Rapid Prototyping Technologies."
The advantages in having a cybermold over a traditional
mold are not hard to imagine:
- A digital CAD pattern will not wear out with use.
- Once made, a cybermold can be reproduced merely by duplicating
the CAD file
