Ecology and Evolution of Plant Reproduction

A central goal of evolutionary biology is to understand the role of adaptive evolution in the formation and maintenance of species. To date my research aim has been to provide a coherent picture of adaptation from the genetic level to its dynamics in natural populations. To study adaptation, I have chosen to focus on reproductive traits because these traits are clearly linked to reproductive success, making it straightforward to determine the relationship between trait variation and fitness. I have used an integrative approach, and attacked problems from multiple perspectives, including population genetics, molecular biology, comparative biology, and theoretical modeling. My integrative approach to the study of adaptation has contributed to explain previously puzzling plant reproductive strategies.
