Digital Durham Web Project

Web Site Description: The Digital Durham Project features a web site comprised of primary material from late nineteenth-century Durham, including a portion of the Orange County tax list for 1875, the federal population census of 1880, late nineteenth century maps, visual images, and selected wills and household inventories. The Digital Durham Web site is intended for use in a variety of American history classes at Duke and in North Carolina secondary schools. The web site also serves as the keystone of a Duke University course, Documenting Durham and the New South, in which students analyze and interpret digital sources and translate their discoveries into teaching modules for the North Carolina Public Schools.
