THE CONSTITUTION OF
THE SOCIETY OF KOREAN-AMERICAN SCHOLARS
CHAPTER 1. CHARTER
Article 1. NAME
The organization shall be known as the Society of Korean-American
Scholars, hereafter referred to as SKAS.
Article 2. OBJECTIVES
The objectives of SKAS shall be to promote scholarship and
fellowship among its members, to foster leadership among young
Korean-Americans and engender intellectual exchanges within the
Korean-American community.
Article 3. ACTIVITIES
In order to accomplish the objectives enunciated in Article 2,
activities of SKAS shall be determined and directed by the
Board of Directors.
CHAPTER 2. MEMBERSHIP
Article 4. MEMBERSHIP
SKAS strives to be a multi-racial and multi-cultural society,
all-inclusive of scholars, professionals and students, engaged in all
fields of study. Membership is open to Korean-Americans, Koreans, both
domestic and overseas, as well as to non-Koreans, throughout the
world, who subscribe to the objectives of SKAS. Type and
classification of members shall be determined by the Board of
Directors. Approval of members shall also be decided by the Board
of Directors.
CHAPTER 3. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Article 5. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The inaugurating Directors shall be selected at the first founding
meeting of SKAS. Thereafter, terms and procedures for electing new
Directors shall be determined by the inaugurating Board of Directors.
CHAPTER 4. EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
Article 6. EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
The Board of Directors shall appoint an executive council of officers
which shall be comprised of a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, and
Directors. All necessary bylaws for SKAS officers shall be legislated
by the Board of Directors.
CHAPTER 5. COMMITTEES
Article 7. COMMITTEES
The Board of Directors, in consulation with SKAS officers, shall
appoint committees to assist in carrying out the activities of SKAS.
CHAPTER 6. FINANCE
Article 8. FINANCE
The funding for the Society will be procured from membership dues,
contributions, and grants from nonprofit foundations.
This constituion was adopted on October 25, 1996 and its final
version approved on November 12, 1996.
