The Society of Korean-American Scholars

Mission Statement

SKAS, or the Society of Scholars, is a private, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization dedicated to the promotion of scholarship and fellowship among its members. It also seeks to foster leadership among young Korean-Americans and engender intellectual exchanges within the Korean-American community.

The Society of Scholars strives to be a multi-racial and multi- cultural society, one that is all-inclusive of scholars, professionals and students, engaged in all fields of study. Membership is open to those Korean-Americans, Koreans, both domestic and overseas, as well as those non-Koreans, throughout the world, who subscribe to the Society's mission and would like to join. The funding for the Society will be procured from membership dues, contributions, and grants from nonprofit foundations.

In accordance with this unique mission, the Society of Scholars arranges timely, informative and educational programs and activities in all areas of interest to the Korean-American scholarly and professional community. This will include; a forum-newsletter published electronically (IEKAS), an electronic database, job and conference announcements, recruitment sessions, mentor programs, awards of distinction among those of the younger generation, reach-out programs for other ethnic groups, reach-out programs for scholars and professionals in Korea, and the promotion of fine arts.
