Org: Sent: Tuesday, March 21, 2006 5:45 PM Subject: American Students Summer Placements & Study Tour in India Program - Rai Foundation Grants Available to Outstanding Students Dear President Richard H. Brodhead , Based on the great response received in our faculty-interaction initiative, "Towards Excellence in Higher Education", we are glad to announce three new programs aimed at increasing interaction amongst Students in India and the US: 1. International Students Summer Placements Initiative (ISSPI) 2. Discover Contemporary India (DISCO India) 3. Joint Study and Analyses Projects (JOSAP) The above programs will enable American students to experience India in new and relevant ways. Indian students have for long enjoyed the nurture of America's universities. Grants are available from Rai Foundation Endowments to outstanding students to cover their full or part of the costs of the program. The details of the above-mentioned programs for students are given below. I look forward to receiving students from the US and hope to provide them with a most memorable experience of India Warm Regards Vinay Rai President Rai Foundation www.raifoundation.org ; www.vinayrai.in Procedure for Program 1: International Students Summer Placements Initiative (ISSPI) ISSPI invites applications from undergraduate students studying in their final year as well as postgraduate students from selected US universities to complete their summer internship with either the Indian Corporate Sector or with the NGO/Development sector in India. A screening committee of RFC Placement Cell (RFCPC) will determine whether a student applying for internship in India has a chance to get placement within the Indian corporate/development sector in the field of his/her choice. Once a student's candidature is accepted by the RFCPC, the student's CV will be sent across to various appropriate companies seeking their interest. The interest once established, RFCPC would put the two entities together and facilitate the summer internship. RFCPC will try its level best to ensure that the recruiting organization will provide a stipend plus cover return economy class trip as well as local travel costs. Residency will be provided at the Rai Foundation student campuses where ever possible, otherwise by the recruiting company. For students desirous for working in the NGO sector, the stipend and travel cost reimbursement may be modest or none. However in this case, Rai Foundation will provide the cost of boarding and lodging at its expense in its campuses in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai. Procedure for Program 2: Discover Contemporary India (DISCO India) DISCO India invites applications from students, studying in any year/level, at a US university, to participate in a 6-week program (summer) OR a 3-week program (winter), which will familiarize students with key aspects of the Indian business environment, Indian financial markets, Indian mindsets, its arts and cultural heritage and general growth areas. The cost of the program (in USD): 3 weeks program: 100 (tuition) + 300 (B & L*) = $ 400 6 weeks program: 200 (tuition)+ 600 (B & L*) = $ 800 Students may calculate an additional $1100 approx. for the return airfare Limited Full, Partial and Short Rai Foundation Scholarships available for outstanding students** Procedure for Program 3: Joint Study and Analyses Projects (JOSAP) JOSAP invites applications from students, studying in any year/level, at a US university, to participate in a 4 wk program (summer) OR a 2-week program (winter) joint study project (one American and one Indian student from Rai Foundation).
