CompSci 108 : Spring 2009

Nicholas Ho Rui Yuan

About myself

I'm from Singapore and this is my third and last year here at Duke.

My first major is Biology (conc. Biochemistry) and my second major is Computer Science

Autobiography

I suppose I'm not the typical person in the class, seeing as how I'm neither

A) interested in working for a tech company in the future nor

B) Going to study computer science in grad school.

Why am I taking this class then? I figure if my future plan actually comes true, I'll be doing
research in Biology and learning how to write programs to do most of the tedious work for me is
going to be a good thing.
(Oh yeah, plus I find coding fun) [*gasp* What a surprise there?!?!] (btw, this is the reason why I'm studying computer science)

However other than the typical uses of a college student (playing games, surfing the net), I find
that I don't use my computer for much else.

My worst programming experence was the first time I entered a TopCoder algorithm programming competetion.
I didn't manage to solve any of the problems in the 75 minutes allocated to me.
Luckily I got better over time and doing the TopCoder competitions have allowed me to improve my coding
tremendously. (albeit not in a very neat/clean manner)
