Nick Hawthorne: CompSci 108 Homepage

 Cps 108 homepage

Hi, I'm Nick Hawthorne, and I'm from Boston, Massachusetts. I am currently a sophomore, and I am a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Programming is my favorite thing to do in the field of academia. I also enjoy screenwriting and film editing a lot, and have decided to get a certificate in FVD.

I am also taking this semester:

Latin 105, a class on Ovid's Metamorphoses which conveniently solves the problem of my language requirement in one fell (very difficult) swoop.

FVD 133S, which is a class about adapting literature to film.

CompSci 170, a class on Artificial Intelligence

Computer Science Background

I first used a computer when I was 2 years old, when my mother was fumbling around on her old Apple Macintosh and I told her to "give me the mouse, mommy". I grew up using Macs, but when I was 12 I decided I needed to get a PC so I could play CounterStrike, which was at the time my favorite computer game. I used PCs from then until I came to school, but recently got a Mac because of how neat the new ones are. And light, too. I use my computer every day for various music, movies, and other multimedia. My interest in computer science stems from my adolescent computer game addiction, and then later a decent background in math in high school. My best programming experience came last semester in CompSci 104, when I wrote a bubble sort in assembler for extra credit and it ran through on the first test perfectly, the only time that ever happened to me in assembler. My favorite programming assignment was probably Boggle, from 100. In the future I definitely see myself continuing to use computers every day, and maybe trying to get a job programming after school.
