and the Duke Jazz Ensemble Born and raised in New York City, CLIFTON ANDERSON grew up surrounded by music, receiving his first trombone from his legendary uncle, Sonny Rollins, when he was seven years old. He went on to graduate from Manhattan School of Music, and from there served valuable apprenticeships with Slide Hampton's World of Trombones, Frank Foster's Loud Minority, McCoy Tyner's Big Band, Lester Bowie's Brass Fantasy, and in groups with Abdullah Ibrahim. Since 1983, he has been a regular fixture in Sonny Rollins'groups. Most recently he has completed his first album as a leader on Milestone Records, entitled "Landmarks." |
