Justin Robinson, alto sax

Alto saxophonist Justin Robinson was born August 14, 1968 in
Manhattan. He first picked up a horn at the age of 13, and honed his
sound while attending the High School of Music and Arts (LaGuardia
High School) in New York. Robinson developed a passion for the alto
sax and, from the influences of Charlie Parker and Jackie McLean,
crafted his own distinctive sound. Robinson has collaborated with
eminent artists such as the Harper Brothers, Cecil Brooks III, Abbey
Lincoln, Diana Ross, Little Jimmy Scott, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz
Band. He lives in New Jersey and is currently touring with trumpeter
Roy Hargrove.
Fred Wesley,

Through his ventures as a trombonist, arranger, and composer, Fred
Wesley has established himself as one of the preeminent funk
musicians. Wesley has performed with artists such as James Brown,
Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Maceo Parker. He has arranged
music for groups such as Parliament and Bootsy's Rubber Band, and has
led his own groups, including Fred Wesley and the Horny Horns.
Wesley has also performed jazz with the Count Basie Orchestra and
other groups. Currently, Wesley continues to tour, perform, write,
and educate. His most recent CD is Full Circle from Be Bop to Hip Hop.
Wesley's new book, Hit Me, Fred: Recollections of a Sideman from Duke
University Press, describes the trials and triumphs of a
well-seasoned funk musician.

Giampaolo Casati was born in 1959 in Genova, Italy, and was very
active in the Italian jazz scene early in his life as a trumpeter.
Casati began teaching at the Louisiana Jazz School, and since then
has been extensively involved in the Italian and international jazz
scenes. Previous collaborators include Lee Konitz, David Liebman and,
most recently,saxophonist Benny Golson and pianist Carla Bley.

Danila Satragno is
internationally renown for her vocal abilities. She obtained a degree
in music at the N. Paginini Conservatory in Genoa, Italy. Since then
she has been teaching and performing extensively, working with Italian
musicians as well as American jazz musicians including Jimmy Cobb, Mal
Waldron, and Joe Chambers. Italian monthly review Musica Jazzi put her
the top ten of new Italian talents. She currently directs the vocal
programs at three successful Italian jazz schools, all named in honor of
Paul Jeffrey.
Mimmo Cafiero is one of the finest drummers in Italy. He directs a
jazz school and runs a jazz club in Palermo. Cafiero has worked with
many jazz artists from Italy as well as the States, including Valery
Ponomarev, Joey Calderazzo, Steve Grossman, Sam Rivers, Toshiko
Akiyoshi, Archie Shepp, and Ernie Wilkins. His group, the Mimmo
Cafiero Open Jazz Orchestra, has released two CDs in the last two
years: Musica Italiana and Sicilian Songs Splash.

JoAnne Brackeen has been a major jazz pianist for over twenty-five
years, excelling at everything from free to straight-ahead jazz. In
California, she gained experience with great saxophonists like Harold
Land and Dexter Gordon. Later in New York, she performed extensively
with Woody Shaw, Art Blakey, Joe Henderson, and Stan Getz. Since the
'80s, she has performed and recorded primarily as a trio leader. Her
two most recent albums, Pink Elephant Magic
and Popsicle Illusion,
showcase Brackeen as she continues to evolve artistically.
Ralph Peterson, drums
and the Duke Jazz Ensemble

Ralph Peterson, Jr. has rapidly become one of the most innovative and
solid drummers on the jazz scene today. He started playing drums at
age three and trumpet soon thereafter. He attended the Jazz Studies
program at Rutgers Universiy and excelled under the tutelage of Paul
Jeffrey, Kenny Barron, and drummer Michael Carvin. Since then, he has
collaborated extensively with jazz greats such as Art Blakey, Terence
Blanchard, Jon Faddis, Branford Marsalis, Stanley Turrentine, David
Murray, The Count Basie Orchestra, and Betty Carter. Currently
Peterson maintains his working group, The Fo'tet, while continuing to
work with current artists such as Tom Harrell. He also continues his
prolific career as a highly original composer and gifted music
educator.
