Professor Paul Jeffrey
Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies

PAUL JEFFREY, saxophonist and composer, is currently the Director
of Jazz Studies and a professor of music at Duke University. He is also
founder and artistic director of the North
Carolina International Jazz
Festival which includes Italy, Monaco, Portugal, and the
Netherlands. He
has performed and recorded with the jazz greats Thelonious Monk, Dizzy
Gillespie, Charles Mingus, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Howard McGhee,
Sam Rivers, Frank Foster, Charles Moffett, and Clark Terry.
Mr. Jeffrey has also led
his own groups, with whom he has recorded three albums of his own compositions.
He has performed at many festivals, including Chicago, Mary Lou Williams,
Nice, Newport, New York, and Umbria. He was the first Jazz Band director
of the McDonald's All American Jazz Band, artistic director of the Aspen Jazz Festival, and artistic director
for jazz clinics at the Riveria Jazz Festival in Dolo/Venice, and Umbria
Jazz Festival in Perugia Italy. Most recently, a school of jazz
music in Cairo Montenotte was founded and created under his name.
Paul Jeffrey has recorded
numerous albums, including the recent Together in Monaco
