Eric
Bishop began his study of percussion at the age of nine and has
been having the time of his life ever since. His classical training was supplemented
with
drumset study at the age of eleven when he joined his middle school
jazz
band. In high school, Eric performed in every musical ensemble offered,
including Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Symphony Orchestra, Marching
Band Drumline,
Percussion
Ensemble, Steel Drum Band, Basketball Pep Band, Musical Pit Orchestra,
and Show Choir Band. He picked up a djembe for the first time at the
age of
sixteen and
played it for an acoustic rock group in which he also played drumset.
His pursuit of innovative drumming was evident early in his career, as
his high school
years also included regular performances with a group of fellow
high school drummers
in Noise Pollution, an inventive blend of percussion and unique junk-based
instruments (buckets, sheet metal, and yes, even the kitchen sink,
to name a few). At Duke
University, music has continued to dominate Eric’s life, as he plays drumset
in the Duke Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combos, Jazz Ambassadors, and Duke’s musical
theatre group Hoof ’n’ Horn. He also plays djembe with
another campus band, Kody. He is thrilled to be playing alongside such
talented
musicians in
The Pulsar Triyo.
