Pulsar Li began his studies in Raleigh, NC at the age of three and competed classically around the triangle area. Jazz took hold of him in high school during his three years at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) Prep. His passion for music in the north culminated in the album “The Flying Squirrel,” which his band Jazz Pulse recorded in 2002.
Now completing his education at Duke University as a Music and Chemistry double major, Pulsar helps to keep the student music scene on campus fresh and new. In addition to the triyo, Pulsar has played keyboards on numerous other bands such as the Duke Jazz Ensemble, Dirty5Thirty (hip hop), and Alexander Street (jam rock). Whatever the project, Li’s enthusiasm for an innovative and tasteful integration of his classical, jazz, and rock backgrounds always shines through. His recent interests in electronic/computer music also show up from time to time during triyo sets.
