Computing Autobiography
How
I Started:
I started using a computer when I was about 6 as
a result of my older sister’s obsession with them.
My
earliest use was on a 386 (I think...?), which I used to play some
very simple games (tic-tak-toe
type games (Go Moku? anyone).
I have also used Unix and Mac systems, though not much. I use
computers for shopping, banking, email, and to store and play my
music. I secretly enjoy coding and
I once took a
nerdQ test that told me I was a closet nerd (phew... close).
I became interested in computer science long before I started
actually studying it. It turns out to be far
more fun and
less of a hassle than I had imagined. What made me decide to
take my first course was
my exposure to math softwares like
matlab and mathematica. I had to do some programming in
these
languages for math courses and it eventually pushed me over
the edge to actually study it.
What is it that computer
scientists do? Program, design networks, study operating systems and
simulations,
the list goes on and on. But when I picture one
working what do I see? A nerd making a computer do new
tricks—sounds
good to me.
The Best:
My best programming experience was
writing Tetris in a big hurry for my first computer science course.
It was really fun to have complete control of a computer like
that for the first time. There was so much I
had no idea about
that I learned as I went.
Now?:
I have now written lots
of fairly large programs and some even bigger ones, and I love doing
it.
Its been very useful for the math I've been doing and I have
to say I love computers all the more for it.
What more can I
say?
In the future, I will probably use computers for work in math
or even possibly as a programmer.
