Sumesh Chopra
Biography
My name is Sumesh Chopra, and this is my website for CPS108. I'm from Plano, TX - a suburb about 15 minutes outside of Dallas, TX. I'm currently a junior majoring in Computer Science and Economics at Duke University. In my free time, I like to play video games, play sports (basketball and tennis), and play poker. Watching sports is probably my biggest passion, and my dream job would be to run an NBA team, preferably my hometown Mavs! In addition to CPS 108, I'm also taking CPS 182s, CPS 160, ECON 139, and Hindi 2. Here are some links to my favorite websites, as well as a link to the CPS 108 homepage:
Computer Science Background
My first memory of computers is me messing around with my Dad's old Apple IIe. I was pretty fascinated and seemed pretty adept at using them. Growing up, I primarily used them for playing games- I have fond memories of SimCity! I was finally able to switch over to PCs in 8th grade, and after that, my computer knowledge exploded. Over time, I've developed interest in the application of computers, as it relates to consumers. My computing background is colored with experiences in helping others experience the excitement that I have from computers- I've fixed many computers, set up a ton of networks, and even ran my own website business in high school (I know what you're thinking, "wow, this website is really terrible for someone with professional experience, but give it time!). I approach computer science not from a theoretical aspect, but from more of a practical aspect. These days, my life revolves around them. I'm a huge fan of the Internet and all of it's practical applications. It's amazing how so much information is shared digitally. My best and favorite parts of programming are related- I hate how some projects take forever to do. Computer Science is the only class where 10% of the work takes 90% of the time, yet, at the same time, the satisfaction from a perfectly completed project, is well, perfect. In the future, I hope to use computers as a tool to a career, rather than a career in itself. I would like to pursue an MBA and work in Internet/software ventures.
