How is it that my name has come to
be associated with pro-life activism in the college pro-life
movement? I never would have seen this coming freshman year,
but now people will see me and the first thing they say after
Hi or Hello is "So how's pro-life stuff going?"
I
did not seek and grab hold of the cause; it took hold of me,
and I am thankful for it. Somehow I managed to fill a leadership
vacuum at Duke
Students for Life after both of the co-presidents graduated
at the end of freshman year. I have served as President for
three years and am also now the Vice-President of American
Collegians for Life, a national college pro-life organization.
This whirlwind of God's direction in my life finally leads
me to accept a post-graduation job offer at Priests
for Life, a Catholic pro-life organiztion in Staten Island,
NY. And now the cause is fully part of who I am. I have made
it my fight, and I will still defend the lives of the unborn
despite the opposition, despite the deception, despite the
smallness of our numbers.
I have tried very hard to help Christians understand that
the pro-life movement needs them to step up and be counted
instead of relegating it to the quixotic dream of a few activists.
God has called his people to be world changers. Christianity
has already changed the face of the entire world, but there
is still so much change that has yet to be seen and without
vigilance, we lose ground to the enemy.
I am giving pro-life presentations
to as many Christian fellowships, Bible studies, dorms, special
interest groups and churches as I can in my last semester
at Duke. See my speaking schedule below. Contact me at steve.hong@duke.edu
