   II.   Create a meeting

Invite a friend to a meeting in one of the Nicholas conference rooms

 

 III.   Get to know IT sites

IV.   File Storage and the computer labs

5GB space on OIT ‘AFS’ volumes accessible:

·         In Computer labs: Open AFS Connect

·         Enter NetID and password

This will map drive H: to AFSDocs and drive P to your root folder

  V.   Accessing file storage when not in computer labs

·      Via web go to – http://webfiles.duke.edu (one-at-a-time file exchange)
OR

·      1. Connect to Duke’s VPN: http://vpn.duke.edu
2. Map a drive to: https://webdav.webfiles.duke.edu/~yourNetID 
for more details, search http://oit.duke.edu for  webdavs’ and follow steps for “Accessing WebDAVS through Windows 7 and Vista”

 

VI.   Printing

1.       Ask yourself, “Do you really need to print?”

2.       Choose ePrint-OIT or ePrint-NSOE as printer

3.       Enter NetID at pop-up dialogue box

4.       Go to ePrint release station and swipe your Duke Card
(located in A152, Hug Commons, 2nd floor by copier, 3rd floor across from A314, others on campus – Bryan Ctr, Library, Old Chem)

 

VII.   DukeCard and
ePrint Quotas

Go to www.dukecard.duke.edu.  Click ‘Manage Account’ link on left. 

How much is in your NSOE ePrint fund?__________________________

 

VIII.   Mailing lists

Manage your subscriptions at http://lists.nicholas.duke.edu & http://lists.duke.edu

 

 IX.   Backups

·         Use program such as Second Copy http://www.secondcopy.com

·         Manually copy files elsewhere, e.g. AFS space, USB key, external drive

·         Restore AFS files from “latest backup” tab on http://webfiles.duke.edu

 

   X.   Course Content

http://courses.duke.edu – we are transitioning from Blackboard to Sakai.

 

 XI.   Virtual Computing Lab

Go to http://vcl.oit.duke.edu, make a reservation for ‘now’ and give it a try!

 

XII.   Creating websites

·         Copy a file in “public_html” folder in your AFS space (P: drive)
It will appear as http://www.duke.edu/~yourNetID

·         Request a WordPress site at http://sites.duke.edu

 

XIII.   Wireless Network

Choose ‘Duke’ wireless and register your computer in NetReg (using your NetID). 

Wait 10-15 minutes and restart to connect.

NOTE:  ‘Visitor’ wireless network is for non-Duke people
