EcoNet's Endangered Species Resources
- A good place to look for info on endangered species and
the Endangered Species Act, including action alerts on
what is going on in Congress this year.
- The Primate
Center
Located at Duke University, the Primate
Center is the world's leading facility dedicated to
prosimian primates. The facility has many different
species of lemurs, as well as some bushbabies, pottos,
and lorises. Most of these animals live only in
Madagascar, and most are threatened by rapid
deforestation occurring on this island nation. The
Primate Center has recently released five black-and-white
ruffed lemurs back into the forest in Madagascar.

- The Vancouver Island marmot is one of North America's
most endangered mammals, and just about the cutest thing
you'll ever want to see. Visit this site to learn about
the marmot, and how the Canadian government and a
collection of non-profit and corporate partners are
teaming up to save this animal. You can even adopt a
marmot!
- Lighthawk
This is a group with a great mission.
Since 1979, LightHawk has used the power of flight to
educate and activate local officials, community leaders,
and -- through international press -- the general
public about land use practices that threaten to destroy
earth's diverse and fragile ecosystems. Check out their
web site to learn more, and to see some dramatic photos
of timber clear-cuts and other land-altering activities.
And listen to Julia Butterfly give a great talk by cell
phone from nearly 200 feet up in the canopy of a 1000
year old redwood named Luna, where she has lived for the
last 17 months.

what is happening to our world's forests, including
updated action alerts.
- Caribe Rainforest
Trust
Caribe is composed of a small group of
Central American farmers and US small businessmen. Eight
years ago the principals of Caribe purchased deforested
land in Costa Rica and began replanting macadamia in
deforested areas. Caribe allocates a percentage of all
profits to replanting trees and studying ways to stop
further destruction of the forest. Through this web page
you can read about Caribe's reforestation activities in
Costa Rica, their macadamia farm, and their United States
Initiative for Joint Implementation (USIJI) proposal, and
you can order some of their chocolate-covered macadamia
candies, profits from which go back to support the
rainforest.

- Environmental Protection Agency's WWW home page. Some
neat stuff. Check out their Surf Your
Watershed pages, a powerful tool for getting
information and maps for your watershed, including info
on all EPA-regulated sources of environmental pollution.
EPA has done a nice job of bringing together data from
many sources, and presenting it in a geographic context.

Page
- I can't say enough about how invaluable the action alerts
of the Sierra Club are. They provide up-to-date info on
the maneuverings of Congress as they attempt to take us
back to the good old days before there was legislation
that protected our environment.
- EnviroLink
- EnviroLink is a non-profit, grassroots online community
that unites hundreds of organizations and volunteers
around the world with over 375,000 users daily in more
than 150 countries. You can find news, a library of
environmental information, links to green companies and
products, a guide to "green living", and ideas
for actions you can take to make this world a better
