My 7-year-old niece, she found my father dead in the house. He
was sitting on the side of his bed. We think he had a stroke cause
his mouth was twisted and it looked like he was trying to call
out for somebody, but nobody was there to hear him. We had three
deaths in like two weeks. First it was my Dad. Then my cousin,
my little cousin, he was 24. He had been to the Persian Gulf.
Came home, met a girl. They were going to get married. Girl got
pregnant. So he went over to her house one night to spend the
night. Her ex-boyfriend still had a key, came in and killed her,
him and her sister, while they slept. Shot them all dead.
My father died the one week. My cousin died the next week. Then
my grandmother died the next week. So, I went to two funerals,
but I didn't go to my grandmother's cause hers was in Mississippi
and that's a bit much.
This all happened a month ago. And I'm the one who had to go buy
my father's shirt and tie and that kind of stuff.
My mother's just in her '60s [laughs]. My mother, you wouldn't
believe my mother. My mother is sharp! Nobody believes that my
mother is the age she is, because my mother is just jazzy. She
dresses, she looks nice, you know. But she's been sick. When I
first came, I went home because they found her unconscious in
the house.
This was before my father had died. They found her unconscious
and then she was incoherent in the hospital where she didn't know
anybody or anything. It's something wrong in her back, she has
a nurse come into the house three times a week. But my daughter's
going over to see about her and my brother moved home from California.
And then my little sister is staying with her. I talked to her
today. She's feeling a lot better. |
