This is the home page for accessing the data for "Public School Segregation in Metropolitan Areas" by Dr. Charles Clotfelter, to be published in Land Economics November 1999.

Data is available for individual school districts, as in Table 1 of the paper, and for metropolitan areas as in Table 2. The file format is ASCII. The data are arranged in columns and rows, one observation per row.

The data for districts are available in the file district data. Data are organized by metro area name, with the metro summary statistics at the top of the entries for the districts of that metro area. In addition to the statistics presented in Table 1 of the paper, the online data contains the district's local education agency ID (Leaid) a designation set by the National Center for Education Statistics. The record layout and variable definitions are available in the file district layout.

The data for metro areas are available in the file metro data. The layout is the same as in Table 2 of the paper. The record layout and variable definitions are available in the file metro layout.
