I believe the practice of reflection can be one of the most useful tools for improving and evaluating one's own teaching. Prior to student teaching, I wrote an initial philosophy of teaching, a philosophy regarding adolescent psychology, and an analysis of the state and national standards through my courses in the Duke MAT program. Each of these pieces acted together to get me thinking about my position as a teacher. Once I entered the classroom, the Duke MAT continued to provide me with opportunities to reflect on my experiences such as journaling and reflecting with my mentor. In this portion of my portfolio, I have included my initial philosophies, my current teaching philosophy, and reflections upon my teaching and the journaling process.
