My research focuses on examining particular questions related to gaps in the conservation model:

Gap 1, From Science to Policy: Can conservation policies change in the absence of new scientific information? What is the role of narratives and reputation in generating policy stalemate?

Gap 2, From Policy to Action: What conservation actions, if any, adhere to a particular conservation paradigm? Are these actions unique to a particular paradigm or shared among many? Are paradigms real or are they narratives for public consumption with little effect on actions in the field? If the latter, what factors are correlated to which narratives are articulated?

Gap 3, From Action to Evaluation: Are policies or actions used as the basis of evaluating success in protected areas? How is biodiversity status measured in parks? What methods can best reveal the status of biodiversity over time?
