^ Thank you
I would like to thank the following people for their help with pulling together this presentation on such short notice: in the Religion Department: Bruce Lawrence, Lillian Spiller, Sandra Woods, and Lynda Harrison; the students in Ethics and the Interent, Spring 1997: particularly Jason Finkelstein, Daniel Rosenthal, and Kellee James; audio-visual and networking assistance: David Gourley and Carlisle Willard; and electronic brainstorms: Brenda Denzler and Bruce Siceloff.

^ Permission and Acknowledgements
I would also like to thank Josh Quittner, of Time magazine and the Netly News, who gave his permission to keep the material borrowed from Pathfinder on this presentation site. The people from Pathfinder who worked on the Heaven's Gate package include: Senior Editor: Janice Castro, Producer: Chris McKenna, Art Direction: Christina Tzouras, Picture Editor: Christina Holovach, Writer: Amanda Onion, Sound Editor: Mike Bettison, Copy Editor: John Zebrowski, and Design and Programming: Carlos Pisco and Wusamah Margono Halimun.

^ In Remembrance
Regardless of what any of us might think of the Heaven's Gate cult members, it's important to remember that they were individuals just like you and I, but who almost surely made some unfortunate life decisions. Let us acknowledge the memory of those 39 people and sympathize with their families who now suffer a great loss.

^ About this Site
"The Heaven's Gate Suicides: Searching for Answers Online" was a special presentation given on April 8, 1997, as part of Ethics and the Internet, REL 185.3, in the Religion Department of Duke University. The software I used was PhotoShop and Macromedia Backstage, but I wrote most of the HTML by hand. It was intended to be projected onto a screen for an audience, but hopefully it works as well one-on-one for researchers and surfers who continue to be interested in this topic.
