CompSci 108 - Spring 2005
Will Fleming
-About Me:
I'm a sophomore from Bradenton, FL, though I've moved around enough that "from" doesn't
mean much. I'm majoring in ECE and Compsci. I like doing things like gaming, paintballing,
reading, working out, etc. I'm on the crew team here at Duke, and hence don't have time for
much else.
I was first introduced to computers by a 486 that my family paid way too much for. Most
of what I remember of that PC was playing (incredible at the time) games like Wolfenstein
and messing around with the primitive internet. Since then, I've used a variety of laptops
and manufactured PCs, all Windows-based. I had a tiny PC I messed around with a few years
ago that really got me interested in computers; I think it ended up fried by a power surge
or something. I built the computer I use now a couple years ago, and a few upgrades have kept
it up to speed. I mostly use computers now for the internet, email, much of my homework, music, and
games. It seems to me computer scientists work a lot with larger groups, creating usable and
maintainable software, and stare at computer screens until they go blind. As far as programming
experiences, I have a few memories of spending hours looking for bugs when it was something stupid
like a misspelled word. I'm sure everyone has those, though. The worst project I can remember is
the animal project from cps 100. I don't think I ever got that thing working. Considering the fact
that both my majors have the word "computer" in them, I think I'll probably work with computers for a
living. Yippie.
